Mississippi IAR CE: completion and provider reporting

Mississippi’s first IAR CE year was 2022. Completing a course and confirming its report are separate steps; Rule 6.14 makes the IAR responsible for ensuring the provider reports completion.

Who must review Mississippi Rule 6.14?

The Secretary of State’s adoption notice covers representatives of both state-registered and federal covered firms. Rule 6.14 requires six Ethics and Professional Responsibility credits, including at least three ethics hours, and six Products and Practice credits per reporting period. Check the representative’s registration and initial reporting period with the firm.

What if I completed a course but the credit is absent?

Keep the completion certificate, date, provider and exact Course ID. Compare those details with the year and category shown in FinPro, then ask the provider to confirm the report. A payment receipt is useful for a purchase inquiry but does not establish completion or credit acceptance.

Record the provider’s response and check the transcript again. Avoid buying a second course simply to cover what could be an unprocessed or mismatched report. If the regulator or firm identifies a different reporting-year issue, update the plan before choosing additional learning.

Apply recognition rules carefully

Mississippi’s rule includes conditional recognition for qualifying FINRA, professional-credential and home-state CE. Home-state recognition requires a sufficiently stringent program and actual compliance. Excess credits do not carry forward. Confirm recognition against the individual record instead of multiplying twelve-credit purchases by the number of registrations.

Planning example: a certificate and an unchanged balance

Fictional planning example. A Mississippi registrant passes an Ethics course, but FinPro still shows the earlier balance. The registrant checks the Course ID and completion date, asks whether the provider submitted the report and checks whether an older reporting period remains unresolved. The missing transcript entry is treated as a question to investigate, not proof that a replacement purchase is required.

Keep a short log of the question, response date and next transcript check. If the annual deadline is close, involve compliance promptly and use the current reporting and renewal-processing guidance. Do not assume a successful registration payment cures a CE issue.

Choose the remaining learning from the reconciled record

Once reporting questions are settled, compare prior Course IDs using the FinPro selection guide. The catalog identifies each course’s category and topics. Select only after the reporting year and balance are clear; course purchase, completion, reporting and accepted credit remain separate checkpoints.

Quick answers

Who is responsible for checking a Mississippi course report?

Rule 6.14 makes the IAR responsible for ensuring that the authorized provider reports the completion.

Can Mississippi CE credits be carried forward?

No. Rule 6.14 prohibits carrying excess credits into a later reporting period.

Does home-state compliance automatically settle Mississippi CE?

Recognition is conditional on the home-state program and the individual’s compliance. Confirm that the conditions apply to your record.

Should I buy another course when a completion is missing?

First reconcile the provider, Course ID, completion date and reporting year with the provider and your firm. A missing report is not necessarily missing learning.
