IAR CE requirements by state
Check every jurisdiction where you are registered and its effective year before buying IAR CE. A state’s adoption date does not establish your individual first reporting year, remaining credits or registration status.
Which jurisdictions have adopted IAR CE?
The NASAA adoption map lists the following jurisdictions. This is a dated planning reference, not a determination of your obligation.
| Effective year | Jurisdictions |
|---|---|
| 2022 | Maryland, Mississippi, Vermont |
| 2023 | Arkansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, D.C., Wisconsin |
| 2024 | California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, North Dakota, Tennessee |
| 2025 | Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Rhode Island, U.S. Virgin Islands |
| 2026 | Illinois |
| 2027 | Indiana, Washington |
Indiana and Washington start in 2027. Their inclusion does not mean they require 2026 CE. Washington state is separate from Washington, D.C., which is listed for 2023.
Turn the list into a personal plan
- List your current and prior IAR registrations, with start and end years.
- Check the state securities regulator for first-year rules, waivers and recognition of home-state compliance.
- Open FinPro and check each reporting year and category. An old deficiency can matter even after a registration ends.
- Use our FinPro course-selection guide to compare those balances with course IDs already taken.
Read the guide that fits your situation
- Tennessee: the existing annual requirements guide.
- Wisconsin: first registration and home-state recognition.
- Indiana: planning for 2027 while checking existing obligations.
For another state, use its regulator’s guidance rather than assuming the examples above apply. The existing CE checker can help organize a plan; it does not access your FinPro account.
Quick answers
Is this a list of states requiring everyone to take CE in 2026?
No. It includes 2027 effective years. Your registrations, first reporting year and any existing deficiency still need to be checked.
What if my jurisdiction is absent?
Check with its securities regulator. Absence from this dated list is not a determination that you have no CE requirement.
Should I buy a pair for every state where I am registered?
Do not multiply purchases by the number of states. Confirm how your registrations are treated, then plan from the remaining category balances in FinPro.
