IAR CE · Tennessee
IAR CE in Tennessee, explained.
Tennessee requires investment adviser representatives (IARs) to complete 12 IAR CE credits each calendar year: 6 in Ethics and Professional Responsibility and 6 in Products and Practice. Credits must be reported by December 31. Tennessee’s requirement has applied since the 2024 calendar year.
What Tennessee requires
- 12 IAR CE credits every calendar year: 6 Ethics and Professional Responsibility plus 6 Products and Practice (Tennessee Securities Division Rule 0780-04-03-.17).
- The rule applies to both state-registered and federally covered investment adviser representatives.
- Credits must be reported by December 31. Extra credits do not carry forward to a later year.
- A newly registered IAR first has to meet the requirement by the end of the first full calendar year after the year of first registration.
- Completion is tracked in FINRA’s FinPro.
NASAA’s map lists Tennessee as an IAR CE jurisdiction effective in 2024. Sources are linked below.
If the deadline is missed
An IAR who has not completed the requirement by December 31 is set to “CE Inactive” in CRD, with registration status “Approved – Pending IAR CE.” An IAR who is still CE Inactive at the close of the next calendar year is not eligible for IAR registration or renewal, according to the Tennessee Securities Division’s notice. For this year’s processing dates, see the 2026 IAR CE deadline guide.
