Nevada IAR CE: licensing, renewal and home-state checks

Nevada’s first IAR CE year was 2024. The CE rule and the license-renewal rule address different obligations, so check both the transcript and registration process.

Which Nevada rules should an adviser compare?

NAC 90.3913 requires licensed investment-adviser representatives to complete six Ethics and Professional Responsibility credits, at least three covering ethics, and six Products and Practice credits for each reporting period. The adjacent NAC 90.3911 addresses annual license renewal. A renewal payment does not establish that the education requirement has been met.

Keep rule adoption separate from first CE compliance

The CE provision was added in June 2023; NASAA identifies 2024 as Nevada’s first CE year. Record your initial registration date and any earlier CE-state registrations before selecting a reporting year. If a licensing exemption or first-year question arises, resolve it with the firm and regulator rather than drawing a conclusion from residence alone.

Do home-state or other credentials change the course plan?

Nevada provides conditional home-state recognition when that program is at least as stringent and the representative complies with it. The rule also addresses qualifying FINRA and credentialing-organization CE. Check the conditions and the credited category; a professional title alone is not an approved course report. Excess credits cannot be carried forward.

Planning example: renewal paid, transcript still open

Fictional planning example. A Nevada representative receives confirmation of a renewal payment but sees an open Products and Practice balance. The representative places the renewal receipt and FinPro transcript side by side. One confirms an administrative payment; the other identifies the unresolved education question. Compliance determines whether a recognized FINRA completion or additional approved course is needed.

For each candidate course, record its exact ID and compare it with prior completions. Ask the provider about missing reports before purchasing duplicate content. Use the current reporting timetable rather than treating a historical adoption date as a completion deadline.

Make the selection conditional on the confirmed balance

The course-selection guide helps organize reporting years and category balances. Compare the individual course details and samples after those questions are settled. If a home-state determination or missing report is unresolved, keep it visible in the worksheet instead of assuming a purchase resolves it.

Quick answers

Was Nevada’s first CE year 2023 or 2024?

The rule was added in 2023; NASAA lists 2024 as the first CE year.

Does paying Nevada license renewal prove my CE is complete?

No. License renewal and the CE requirement are separate checks. Review the transcript and provider reports as well as the renewal record.

Can I carry excess Nevada CE into the next reporting period?

No. NAC 90.3913 prohibits carrying forward excess credits.

Does Nevada recognize every other state’s CE automatically?

No. Home-state recognition depends on the program’s stringency and the representative’s compliance with it.
